Father’s Day Cheese Selection

C

Treat your cheese-loving dad to our new Father’s Day Cheese Selection showcasing cheeses that pack a flavour punch. Each one is bold and distinctive. Made here in Suffolk, St. Cera is a washed rind version of popular St. Jude, meaty with notes of bacon. From further afield, Isle of Mull Cheddar hails from the Hebridian Island from which it takes its name. Its sharp, fruity tang comes from the cows enjoying fermented grain from nearby Tobermory Whisky Distillery. Last but not least, Perl Las is a Welsh blue cheese that melts on the tongue and leaves lingering spicy overtones. To sit alongside these deep and complex flavours we’ve chosen Peter’s Yard Original Sourdough Crackers, equally rich in their sourdough flavour and crisp texture.

Make this an extra special gift by adding a bottle of Bolney Estate Lychgate Red (courier delivery & Aldeburgh collection only). Bursting with blackberry and cherry flavours, this wine is a perfect accompaniment for cheese.

Tasting notes

St Cera - A delectable, full flavoured cheese created from the Suffolk cheese, St Jude through a different maturation process. Julie Cheyney and her team based at Fen Farm Dairy, Bungay, handmake St Jude using the protein-rich, raw milk of the farm’s herd of Montbéliarde cows. After that, different affinage techniques produce strikingly contrasting cheeses. As it ages, St Cera is washed regularly in a brine solution while St Jude ripens and develops a delicate white bloomy rind. Brine washing gives St Cera its orangey-pink colouring and distinctive taste. It is a deliciously meaty cheese with flavours reminiscent of bacon. Unpasteurised cow's milk / Traditional rennet.

Isle of Mull Cheddar - The 'King' of Scottish cheese is made by the Reade family on the Hebridian island from which it takes its name. A raw cow's milk cheese made to a traditional farmhouse recipe and matured for eighteen months, Isle of Mull Cheddar is pale ivory in colour with a yeasty aroma and full, savoury flavour. It is drier in texture than other Cheddars and slightly nuttier in taste. Its sharp, fruity tang comes from the cows enjoying fermented grain from nearby Tobermory Whisky Distillery. It is well matched by a spoonful of fruity chutney and an oatcake. Pair it with a full-bodied Merlot or perhaps a wee dram of single malt whisky! Unpasteurised cow's milk / Traditional rennet.

Perl Las - With a name that means ‘Blue Pearl’ in Welsh, this cheese is a gem! From Caws Cenarth in Camerthenshire, this rich blue cheese with a fudge-like texture melts on the tongue leaving spicy overtones at the finish. It is delicately salty, local sea salt having been rubbed on the rind. Its refined notes develop intensity with age. A slice of Perl Las is perfect with sweet Sauterne wine or used in cooking to create an exquisite blue cheese sauce on steak or pasta. Fig jam is a delicious accompaniment for the slight sweetness of this cheese. Pasteurised cow’s milk / Vegetarian rennet.
