Last week the Guild of Fine Food "Shop of the Year 2019" competition reached its exciting finale with a wonderful presentation evening in Harrogate. We were absolutely thrilled to receive the "Best Newcomer" award! Just eighteen months since launching Slate, we are extremely proud to receive this recognition for our new business and how we seek to share our passion for cheese with all those who visit our shops.
The judges described Slate as "a fantastic business with a really strong brand and great vision and values that they are successfully sharing with their teams and customers." We were delighted to get this feedback and so excited to bring the Best Newcomer trophy home to our wall of cheese.
Run by the Guild of Fine Food, "Shop of the Year" is a national competition that recognises and promotes excellence in independent retail. Finalists receive two rounds of judging, including an announced visit from one of the Guild's expert judges and a mystery shop by customer experience specialists, Insight 6. For the last couple of months we've had our eyes peeled to see through the disguise of our mystery visitor! This year forty-five shops were shortlisted as finalists across five retail categories. We were honoured to be flying the flag for Suffolk as the only local shop featuring on the list. It was wonderful to meet so many of the finalists in Harrogate to hear about their innovative and outstanding ideas for food and drink retail. Our huge congratulations to the other category winners!
