We are buzzing here at Slate after winning an award at this week's Eat Suffolk Food and Drink Awards.  We were thrilled to win the title of "Best Independent Food & Drink Retailer 2019".

The Eat Suffolk Food and Drink Awards celebrate the people who grow, prepare, cook and purvey the fine food and drink we have in this county.  Our category of Best Independent Food and Drink Retailer recognises retailers such as butchers, wine merchants, delicatessens, farmer's markets and more with a passion for high-quality products, fresh local produce and outstanding customer service.  There were two rounds of judging, including a visit from experienced industry judges to our Aldeburgh shop.

Clare and John had a fantastic evening at the Awards dinner at Milsoms Kesgrave Hall, enjoying a feast of local produce including Dingley Dell smoked ham and Braxted lamb.

We are extremely honoured to receive this recognition in a county bursting with amazing local produce and a truly vibrant food and drink community.  Our congratulations to the evening's other winners and finalists, particularly local cheese makers Jonny and Dulcie Crickmore of Fen Farm Dairy who were crowned "Suffolk Food and Drink Hero" in recognition of their outstanding and inspiring contribution to Suffolk's food and drink industry.  The cheese, Baron Bigod, and raw milk butter they make are always winners with visitors to Slate!
